Chapter 5 : Interpretive Media Development

Interpretive Media Development is refers to efforts to directly improve the media in a society. Media development involves effectively creating, altering and manipulating to physical space or environment in order to facilitate connections between the audience and resource meanings. Media Development also involved journalist training and education, media literacy training and digital media training and integration. Student are need to be noticed each of the subtopic in this chapter and learn more to make them understand.


Interpretive Media Tools-

1. Electronic Media

  • It also known as a 'broadcast media', transmit their information electronically and comprise television, film and radio, movies, CD's, DVD's and some other devices like cameras and video consoles
2. Print Media
  • Use a physical object as a means of sending their information, such as newspaper, magazines, brochures, newsletters  books, leaflets and pamphlets

  • The media plays a common-carrier role
  • Acting as the public representative
  • Socializing People
  • Providing a Political Forum


Media Structure
  • An interpretive media product presents an organized structure or framework (conceptual and spatial) of tangible/ intangible links.

  2. Knowledge of the audience
  3. Appropriate techniques in two equally important integrated layers to create interpretive opportunities.

Chapter 4 : Interpretive Talk and Presentation Technique

The INTERPRETIVE TALK  is prepared formal presentation delivered in person, usually to stationary audience. The interpretive talk provides a basic formal for presenting audiences with opportunities to form their own intellectual and emotional connections with the meanings of a resource without relying on a strong integration of media, demonstration, or resources immersion. In this chapter, student is required to talk using 2 way which is communication structure and slide talks

Resource meanings may focus on the personal relevance or the national significance of a site and help guide the visitor towards and understanding or empathy regarding the importance of a place, object, person or event.

Chapter 3 : Interpretive Technique and Media

In this chapter, we will study about  Interpretation Technique & Media that include Role, Function, Characteristics, the strengths & weaknesses of interpretive technique & media.

It's also contains introduction of media, elements in a media, types of media ( audiovisual product, museum exhibits, wayside exhibits, publication, personal services )

Student also given a task that is decided into a few group to present each subtopic in front of lecturer and they need to explain more about the subtopic as given.


Interpretive is techniques that assists audiences through communication media in making both emotional and intellectual connection with RESOURCES.


Media is medium through which a message is transmitted to its intended audience, such as print media or broadcast (electronic) media


Role of Interpretive Technique & Media

  • To effectively facilitate understanding in communication between people
  • To converts messages that can be expressed in other media that equivalent in others understanding
  • To make audience feel and understand the message or information given though the interpreter is not there and still have communication process.

Characteristic of Interpretive Media
  • Greater freedom of participation level and exposure
  • More options for interpretive effectiveness
  • Provide access to unseen time and space
  • Not easily adjustable

Chapter 2 : Knowledge Resource and Visitor

Knowledge of Resources and Visitors is already covers about importance of resources interpretation, apply appropriate method in collecting information of resources information and visitor interpretation. Student also need to learn about "W" "H" question, that is What, Who, Why, When, Which, Will, How and others. 


Example, Method in collecting visitor information is include observation, informal interview, survey, visitor comment cards and others. As the conclusion in this chapter, students must reviewing and do a revision to make them more understand about this chapter.

covers the basic concepts and application of interpretation services in tourist and visitor attraction. It's contains the principles, competencies, methodologies and planning elements in interpretation services for visitors and tourist.
